Educational Toys For Kids

I think any parent can relate with the struggle to find good educational toys for kids. You want to find not only something the kids will enjoy but something you will benefit from in knowing they are educating themselves on new concepts and broadening the horizon when it comes to imagination and creativity.

It seems every birthday or Christmas I find myself scouring the internet for the best educational gifts for kids that will be worth the money, that will get played with longer than 5 minutes, and that have more to offer than a superficial level of entertainment with no real knowledge gained. Well I’ve hit the JACKPOT! Turns out there are tons of educational subscription boxes out there for kids in all sorts of varieties. These are sure to please every hard to shop for kid

Get Crafty

Do you have a kid who loves arts and crafts? Do they enjoy coloring, painting, cutting, gluing, creating unique and homemade projects? How much would they enjoy receiving a box full of craft projects every month? In the age of technology that we currently live it’s no surprise there are apps out there for everything, but lets be real…using a device app to color/paint is no comparison to having a tool physically in hand, free styling it. Plus, crafts are a great way to see how your child is excelling in their skills and abilities as well as their precision over time.

Introducing STEM Concepts

This is one bandwagon I’m definitely jumping on. As an engineer by day, I can’t wait till my daughters get old enough to start diving into the world of Science, Technology, Engineering, Math (STEM). As stated previously, we are in the age of technology, so why not prepare your kids for the future while having fun at the same time? STEM fields aren’t going anywhere anytime soon, if anything they are becoming more and more popular.

STEM subscription boxes will introduce your child to the basics of coding, electricity, robotics, engineering, earth sciences, chemistry, physics, simple machines, bridges/towers, etc. The possibilities for learning are literally endless.

Calling All Explorers

For the explorer at heart we have subscriptions tailored to that natural sense of curiosity and wonder that most kids have. Your child will get to explore and use the provided tools to complete activities and learn cool facts along the way. We know how curious kids can be, do they not always have a questions in the who, what, when, where, and why categories? Children have a natural hunger to get answers to these questions. So why not feed that curiosity and their want to know with information in the form of a monthly subscription box?

It’s too simple to just answer their questions all the time. A subscription box will teach them how to scout for the answers themselves. It’s a tool that requires them to read, get involved, learn new things in order to gain the information on their own. After all, knowledge can’t just be given to them, they have to work for it.

For the Detectives

Along with the curious explorers are the kids who want to answer all the questions and are all about solving the next puzzle or riddle. A mystery subscription is ideal for them. A monthly mystery laid out over the course of weeks. Clues, riddles, puzzles, artifacts, etc. sent to their door weekly giving them another clue to analyze and getting them one step closer to solving the mystery. This is a great activity for siblings to work together to solve the mystery and get some bonding time as well.

Kids who would enjoy this type of subscription are likely very competitive by nature and are always striving to learn the next great thing. They are inquisitive and have a strong attention to detail.

The Building Blocks Of Creativity

We all know about LEGOs and they are great on their own. But they are even better in a subscription box filled with customer LEGO kits/sets you can’t get in stores. LEGOs are fantastic for inspiring innovation and creativity. We’ve all seen it, you really can build ANYTHING from LEGOs. There is no limit to your childs imagination here. LEGOs also are a great team building activity and can build friendships, family bonds, and cooperation.

As simple as LEGOs are, they have a great deal of benefits on a child’s development. I found a great article covering some of these skills a child can learn from LEGO play here:

  1. Hello Amber,

I loved your post very much. We know that kids are very playful from birth and they can learn faster when they are taught through play (like games or toys). I found these toys and gifts not only very helpful for kids but also for the concerned parents. I liked them all, but especially ‘Mail Order Mystery’ very much. Wanna get those for my nephews. Can’t wait to buy that and surprise them. Also, I am going to share your post with all my friends and family members.

Thank you so much for letting us know about it through such a nice review. 🙂

    Radeet

    • Thanks Radeet, I love the Mail Order Mystery one as well. It’s such a cool concept…wish they had this type of thing when I was a kid. Now I just live vicariously through my kids and get to enjoy these gifts by seeing how much joy they get out of them!

  2. Hi Amber,

This is an engaging and relevant article for raising our children.

With the emergence of Artificial Intelligence and a more advanced computerized world, the STEM system is certainly a must program to have our children engaged in.

I am a proponent of the subscription service which provides new and fresh information in an ever-changing world.

Thank you for sharing this relevant information.

    • Hi Paul thanks for your feedback. It’s definitely important to keep our children in touch with reality while also growing with the times.

  3. I really enjoyed your post, it has varieties to select from for several career paths for kids.

I have a small cousin, more like a kid brother to me, and I plan to buy something that would make him smarter and that’s not just for play. Also it will bring out his creativity and this post has all the answers I need.

    Thank you

  4. Amber,
You have hit on three big things to help kids develop their skills.
Lego’s are a great starter, as they grow they will develop skills in making things that are not sold in a box. This is when you get the biggest advantage of Lego’s.
Stem classes in school are getting more advanced today. Colleges in my area are having Stem classes on the weekends. This will advance your child much quicker in these fields.
The mystery subscription would be so much better than the escape rooms that are showing up today.
What do you think of games that involve word games like Scrabble or Scattegories.
    John

    • Hi John, yes all of these subscription box options are great for development and alternatives to video games or TV watching. Word games are also great to build a child’s vocabulary, reading skills, and comprehension. I’ll keep my eyes out for subscription boxes related to reading/writing/spelling.

  5. Win at the starting line, it is really cool! I always have the concept about win at the starting line, I don’t have child, but if I have, I still don’t know which is the best way to cultivate them, but after read your article, I guess this is really good to do it! Thank you for this article!

    • As a parent there are times of guilt when you want to keep your child busy so you can get stuff done, but you don’t necessarily want to set them in front of the TV or give them a device to keep them occupied. These boxes are a perfect alternative.

  6. I always appreciate anything that gets kids away from screens and working with their hands in the real world. Basic life skills and handy skills are so neglected in today’s education system that anything that can reintroduce real crafts and physical interaction sounds great.

  7. Hi Amber,

I really enjoyed reading your post and I would like to thank you for putting together in one place, all these brilliant ideas for the kids play-time.

My two little daughters have proven to be quite crafty so far and I can use some of your ideas here to keep things interesting for them.

I can see already my oldest one fitting in the detective category and my youngest one in the creative blocks.

Well done for this useful post and I believe it will be much appreciated by many parents.

    Many thanks,
    Dino

    • Hi Dino, I’m in the same boat with two little girls and i’m always searching for great options that they will love and that I know they will be learning from as well. I love the element of surprise that comes with a subscription box plus it teaches them patience as they have to wait for the next box/clue to come in…good things come to those who wait!

I will come back to your website again for sure and I’m looking forward to reading your new posts.)

    Thanks!

  9. Really like you page! Like my husband always tells me make every moment a learning and fun experience for your child. No matter what the age, they are always willing to learn. The image that you have with the child and all the colors on her hand looks like a lot of fun, Im going to try that. You can’t go wrong with doing all the thing you said on your page. Really enjoyed it.

    • Hi Claudia, yes what’s great about subscription boxes is if you maybe aren’t as creative as you would like and have a hard time coming up with activities for your kids there’s not a lot of thought needed from you in this case. The boxes are already tailored, themed, and proven effective and fun for kids…all you have to do is order it and watch the knowledge seep in.

  10. I think education plays an important role in a child’s life. This article teaches how children can play and learn. That what teachers do to educate children today, for some, is hard to learn only from those methods. These could be handy because they could actually learn more from these subscriptions. How to be independent and solve problems. Informative and encouraging, thank you for sharing!

  11. As a teacher myself i always believe that children learn better while playing, specially to develop the motor skills in early childhood. This piece of information will definitely help me improving the way i teach through play. i shall share this to my colleagues who will surely be impressed by the Lego play

    • FYI, some boxes even offer group or classroom discounts specifically so you can utilize them within a school setting…may be worth checking into!

  12. I have seen a lot of monthly subscriptions but nothing like this! It is so incredibly enriching, I truly believe getting your children started learning and even expanding at a young age will help them with so many challenges throughout life. Thanks for introducing such a great concept, I’ll be letting my siblings know!

    • Thanks Alisha, I was definitely excited as well when i found out there were so many options out there…we need to take care of our future generation.
